Our first fundraiser this year is just around the corner. Arlington Runner's Club has teamed with us to create the Shamrock and Roll Run. We anticipate between 300 and 400 participants this year, and all proceeds will benefit Eagle Wings.
The run is on Saturday, March 17th - perfect timing for St. Patrick's Day - and starts at 10:00. We will be registering at the Boy's And Girl's Club near the Arlington Airport, 18513 59th Ave. NE, and the starting line will be close by and across the street. The route goes around the airport and will include a 5 and 10k.
We need volunteers for several different tasks:
7:00 help with setting up the start/finish line equipment and sound system. This will be mostly outside and require moving some heavy equipment. Dress warmly and comfortably. All volunteers for this task will receive a hot beverage from Walker's Coffee on us. (Stop by their stand before arriving at the race - 5702 172nd St. NE across 172nd south of the airport.) This took seven of us about an hour, so it will go quickly if we have enough volunteers.
8:30 help with registration. We need people to bring laptops to help enter participant information, and others to grab t-shirts in the correct size while their information is being entered. Some from Arlington Runner's Club will be running registration, so we only need 2-3 with computers, and about 6 to help find t-shirts and direct "traffic" during registration. This will be inside at the Boy's and Girl's Club.
9:30 help along the route at key corners and water stations. Some are very easy to drive to and park near, others require a bit of walking. Bring a coat, chair, blanket, and umbrella for this one. A hot beverage from Walker's Coffee is on us. Check in with me at the start/finish line at 9:30 to get your turn assignment. Some turns in the beginning of the 10k won't be there long, while those for the 5k and closer to the finish line will be there for the duration of the race.
10:10 gather at the finish line to make noise and cheer on the participants as they finish, and hand out medals. This will be outside, but we have several pop up shelters to keep you out of some of the rain.
11:15 help clean up and put away all the race equipment and sound system. The race should be completed by about noon so clean up time may be pushed back a bit. For those helping with this, I will keep you posted as the date nears. Just helping to cheer as the last of the runners come through while we are waiting to clean up would be great.
You can help with just one area, a certain block of time, all morning, or a combination of the above. Any help however long or short, would be appreciated.
All volunteers 21 and over are welcome to join us for a beer or other beverage (on us) at Skookum Brewery, 17925 59th Ave. NE, after the runners are done and the course has been cleaned up. Since it is a brewery, you must be 21 to attend.
We couldn't do what we do without your help!
